Duke of York Square, National Army Museum, Chelsea Physic Garden, & Brompton Cemetery
My last day in London for England 2023!
I had a few items on my to-do list, but nothing hard and fast. After having plenty open days on this trip, I've decided I actually do better with a plan. I think maybe one open day is nice, but I thrive with a schedule and feel like I'm getting the most out of my time if I have a plan.
I wanted to enjoy a breakfast on my final morning and went to The Ivy Kensington, a pretty posh restaurant. Eggs benny and a latte -- was delicious.
After breakfast, I started my walk to Duke of York Square which is just a pretty shopping area that I've never seen. I saw the Thin House on my way. Someone actually lives here.
It was nice on this trip to walk through actual neighborhoods instead of just being in the touristy areas. The neighborhoods are so quiet!
A perfect photo opp for me! |
Next I walked to the National Army Museum. I really enjoyed the museum, but didn't take any photos. Any free museum -- I am all about it! I would definitely recommend this museum to anyone. I learned a lot about serving in the armed forces in the UK. I probably spent an hour there.
Next was the Chelsea Physic Garden. This garden was established in 1673 and covers four acres on the River Thames. It's a very scientific garden which is different than any other garden I've ever visited! I enjoyed the edible plants section. They pointed out plants that were deadly. There were lots of nice spots to just sit and take it in. I was there for about an hour. They have a lovely looking cafe.
I was feeling a little peckish, but mostly I wanted one last cream tea before my trip was over. I had breakfast at The Ivy Kensington and went into The Ivy Chelsea Garden for cream tea.
The cream tea was nice! This location had more of a stuck-up air to it which made me not enjoy it as much. The women next to me were wearing Chanel (or fake Chanel -- who knows!). Maybe if I was here for a fancier lunch with fancier clothes on, I would've liked it more! The service was also quite slow.
Next I walked to Brompton Cemetery, which I've wanted to visit for a while. I had never been to any cemeteries in London yet!
This cemetery is so large that it takes 10 minutes to walk through.
Here's how a travel day back to the U.S. looks, if you're curious. I keep a Google doc that looks like this for each day.
It's a long day and I always forget how much of a nightmare it is to go through Customs at O'Hare. 😆 But it's worth it.
