My New Great Britain Blog!
Hi, all! Welcome to the blog I created to house my posts from my adventures in the UK.
I originally had all this on my personal blog, but I thought it would be fun for these posts to have their own home. Besotted by Britain describes me to a tee and has a nice ring to it.
Here you can find:
- My 2010 summer internship at the University of Cambridge
- My 2010 two-week adventure around the UK with my aunt and family friends
- My 2015 professional exchange trip to the Netherlands and my tour afterwards around Germany, Czech Republic, Hungary, and Austria (obviously not the UK, but those posts fit better here now)
- My 2018 trip to England -- my "ancestry pilgrimage" to northern England
- My 2019 trip to England -- exploring the area of Kent (southeast England)
- My 2020 trip to England -- to escort study abroad students to Canterbury
This blog has been a bit of a labor of love because I'm a perfectionist and needed to go back through every post. I didn't edit the words I wrote at the time, but I did tighten up some of the blog titles, added links to places I visited, and fixed broken photos.
Some really exciting news is that I'm off to England again! I leave tomorrow and will visit one new city (Brighton) and two cities I've been to briefly before (Salisbury and Bath). I will also have almost a full week in London for Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee Celebration -- 70 years on the throne!
It's hard to convey my excitement about returning to my favorite place after more than two years away!
I'm not sure how much I plan to write while I'm there, if at all. I love doing the posts so much, but typing on my phone or Kindle is a struggle that I don't enjoy. I'm not bringing a laptop with me; I just don't want to lug that around. I also put too much pressure on myself to make a post each day in order to keep up and I don't want to worry about doing that every evening. I want to be a little more present. So, I think I'll just make notes while I'm there and then have fun reliving it when I get home through writing about it.
So anyway, England 2022 will include Brighton, Salisbury, Bath, and London. This cute little graphic I found shows select cities in England. I added Brighton and Salisbury since they weren't included and also put red map pins on where I'll be this time. You can see how northern Durham and Newcastle are -- this is where I went for my "ancestry pilgrimage" in 2018. Canterbury is in the lower right, which is where I was in 2019 and 2020.
