More Exploration of Durham
I was going to go to Shincliffe today, but decided against it. I have a four times great grandfather that was born there, but didn't think the cost in money and energy was worth it. I am exhausted because every day is jam-packed. This is my own doing, but I want to take advantage of everything!
I decided to stay in Durham and have more of a leisurely day. I walked to a café called Flat White Kitchen for a coffee and early lunch. This place was so cute, tiny, and busy. I wonder if it's a trendy spot or just a good location. I got a mocha and a chicken pesto sandwich and both were tasty.
I sat there for quite a while enjoying it, but then decided to walk around because I haven't done enough walking lately ha.
At 2:00 I had planned to do a river tour with Prince Bishops River Cruises. I got there about 10 minutes early and it was already filling up. Took my spot and settled in.
It was nice to be on the water and the weather was perfect. Enjoying the outdoors was pleasant. What wasn't pleasant is that everyone was talking over the commentary! I couldn't completely hear what the guy was saying, which was frustrating because I'm here to learn, people! Another downside was the little kids, too little to enjoy it or pay attention, as well as the set of parents who were just laughing about their kid having a meltdown right behind me. Neato.
Anyway, here's some pretty views from the boat.
After this, I was in search of cake and I found it. This scrumptious carrot cake!
Next I was ready for more walking, this time directly next to the river. It's called the River Wear (pronounced "Weer") and flows around the cathedral and castle, forming a sort of moat on three sides.
I was basically ready to call it a day at this point. It was still a ton of walking, even though it was more of a chill day. I headed home to the AirBnB to take a load off for a while. But look at this pretty pub I found on the way!
I had to go back out for dinner and I knew I wanted a traditional Sunday roast. I called an Uber for transportation and made my way to the Court Inn. I ordered at the bar and went back to the "carvery," which is basically a buffet line. There was someone there to carve the meat for you--beef, pork, or turkey. I went with pork and then loaded up on side dishes.

Basically this is like Thanksgiving dinner and it was amazing. Mashed potatoes, carrots, peas, stuffing, cauliflower, and Yorkshire pudding, which is the roll looking thing in the upper right part of the photo. It tastes like a croissant.
Another highlight of the day was doing laundry! And hanging the clothes on the line outside!
